Undoubtedly, the Catholic church, as well as other denominations, are the arbiters of faith & morals. I believe that the church as an institution has no political agenda. However, admit it or not, there are among the clergy & laity who uses the churchs' cause to further their own interest. It is rather disturbing that some of them in guise of piety are ranting against a particular political alliance but blind to another. It is rather bias to stand against the perceived abuses of the present while they kept silent over the abuses of the past. In this turbulent era of the social media; amidst the noise, the truth is drowned by the flood of disparaging views. Politics is complicated enough, blend it with religious persuasion may lead to spiritually harm. We each have to re-asses first our motives before making a stand. It's easier to go for or against on social issues. Yet, it is not helpful to just go for what is popular or follow indiscriminately want your church dictates. Be vigilant yet be sufficiently informed, study and analyze. Remember that the greatest sin is ignorance. But most of all, pray for discernment. Perhaps we would find within our hearts to keep silent & work for change than engaged in argument. Change shall come not by our opinions but by our involvement in its attainment. God's wisdom abide with everyone.
